Freight rates for shipping by sea, air and train has especially from the Far East been on a very high level for a long period.
Covid-19 has had a vast impact on the goods quantities and the shipping processing. Passenger air trafic has been very limited during the crisis. Relatively high volumes of freight are under normal conditions send by passenger planes. This capacity has been almost non existing. Big ports were closed for periods owing to outbreaks locally.
In general, there is a lack of equipment such as containers, space on ships and trains. At the same time there is an unbalance between where the capacity and goods are located.
The blockage of the Suez-channel stressed the markets even more.
It looks as the high freight rates will be around for the near future, because goods have accumulated through out the freight systems.
